Concert

This concert is offered in collaboration with the government of Quebec with the aim of stimulating conversations around mental health issues among adolescents.

What do Lady Gaga, Beethoven, Frida Kahlo, Émile Nelligan, Berlioz, Mozart, Virginia Woolf, Vincent Van Gogh, and Billie Eilish have in common? Whether they lived in the 17th century or are part of our contemporary star system, these artists share a profound inner suffering.

This concert-mediation will immerse the audience in the heart of the rich human emotional landscape by addressing the question of self-discovery. Art allows us to explore the multitude of colours within us. Yes, it is possible to create beauty from what is darker and more complex; all it takes is to find one’s path and ride this colossal – yet immensely enriching – wave of self-expression.

Artists

Catherine St-Arnaud
Catherine St-Arnaud is a vibrant and radiant soprano, hailed as an artist who is “simply dazzling” (Opera Magazine) and a “preferred interpreter” (Opera Canada) known for her exceptional talent across a wide repertoire. Recently, she has performed with the National Kaohsiung Arts Center in Taiwan (as Adina in “L’elisir d’amore”) and the Oregon Symphony (as the soloist in “Carmina Burana”). She also originated the role of Albertine at age 30 in “Albertine en cinq temps – l’opéra” at Théâtre du Rideau Vert and toured throughout Quebec.

On stage, Catherine has portrayed roles such as Susanna (in “Le nozze di Figaro”), Lucia (in “Lucia di Lamermoor”), Thérèse (in “Les mamelles de Tirésias”), and the Duchesse Altisidore (in “Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse”). In recitals, she has centered her projects around women’s themes, performing at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur and the Société de l’art vocal de Montréal, among others.

A two-time finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (New England Region), Catherine St-Arnaud is also a recipient of the Père Lindsay Foundation Scholarship and has won prestigious awards such as the Manulife Symphony Orchestra Competition, the Prix d’Europe, and the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques auditions.

Julien LeBlanc
Julien LeBlanc, a Canadian pianist with contagious enthusiasm, is renowned for his musical sensitivity and communication skills. Based in Montreal, he is highly active in the Canadian music scene as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. Julien has released several albums, including his solo album “Mélancolies” featuring works for piano by Dutilleux, Franck, and Poulenc in 2015, as well as an album of French and Spanish art songs with soprano Marianne Lambert in 2020.

Since 2012, Julien LeBlanc has co-directed the artistic direction of the “Été musical de Barachois” in New Brunswick. He has participated in numerous tours across Canada with Jeunesses Musicales Canada and Début Atlantique. Julien LeBlanc also serves as a lecturer at the University of Ottawa, conducts masterclasses throughout Canada, and is a frequent guest on music competition juries.
