Michael van der Sloot’s musical journey began under the guidance of his brother William, focusing on the violin and later the viola during their twelve years of study at Medicine Hat College. He continued his formal education by completing both his Bachelor’s and Master of Music degrees in viola performance at the University of British Columbia, where he studied under the tutelage of Gerald Stanick. His education was further enriched through lessons with esteemed musicians, including Martha Katz, Karen Tuttle, Bernard Zaslav, Andrew Dawes, and Donald McInnes.
